THE ART OF GIVING PERMISSION
ABOUT THE ART OF GIVING PERMISSION™
Most philosophies are built from ideas.
The Art of Giving Permission™ was built from people.
From thousands of conversations. Thousands of hours spent sitting across from individuals, couples, families, and leaders. Thousands of questions Dr. Fischer asked himself, reflected upon, and ultimately answered:
Dr. Fischer has dedicated his adult life to finding answers, not simply through counseling, but through an unrelenting study of human experience itself.
Drawing from clinical psychology, Buddhism, Taoism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zen meditation, and years of therapeutic practice, everything clicked into place for him one day.
Dr. Fischer realized that, though everyone is different, everyone’s suffering is caused by the exact same thing. They suffer because they misunderstand the mechanics of their own experience. The Art of Giving Permission™ emerged directly from this realization.
Not as another self-help philosophy. Not as another therapeutic technique. But as a practical framework for understanding ourselves, our relationships, and reality itself with fierce clarity, wisdom, and freedom.

MEET DR. JASON FISCHER
Formerly a Buddhist monk, Dr. Jason B. Fischer, PhD is a counselor, board-certified neurotherapist, teacher, author, father, and creator of The Art of Giving Permission™.
His work has always centered on two primary questions:
What is the true cause of human suffering? What is the true solution?
Eventually, the answer arrived. A truth others have seen partially. But nothing exactly like this.
TAOGP is refreshingly uncommon. No gimmicks. No motivational hype. No empty promises.
Instead, Dr. Fischer offers something enduring: a practical understanding of how emotions, relationships, and human experience actually work.
He is the author of The Art of Giving Permission (2026), The Two Truths About Love (2013) and 108 Beads: Poems on the Way (2009)
IN HIS OWN WORDS
I Didn't Set Out
to Create a Philosophy
I wasn't born with any special amount of wisdom. I've walked a long and sometimes very painful road to get where I am today.
Like so many people, I spent years searching.
Searching for relief. Searching for purpose. Searching for a way to make sense of suffering.
I thought becoming a Buddhist monk was my calling. I believed the monastery would provide the answers I had been looking for. Instead, it gave me a different direction.
The answers I sought weren't to be found in withdrawing from the world. They would be discovered by serving people within it. That direction led me into Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I savored the relationship between Eastern philosophies and healing. Yet something still felt off.
While in acupuncture school, I was volunteering weekly at late-night shifts for a youth crisis hotline. Although my responsibility was to provide referrals, I repeatedly found myself in much deeper conversations with desperate callers. Each time this happened, I’d leave the call thinking:
"I hope they receive the same quality of help I think I could provide them.”
Then one day a patient of mine at the acupuncture clinic looked at me and said,
"The acupuncture is good... but what really helps me is talking with you."
That single sentence became a turning point in my life.
I left Chinese medicine. Entered graduate school for counseling.
And started a new trajectory of listening and learning.
Thousands upon thousands of conversations. Thousands of stories. Thousands of opportunities to reflect upon the question I carried with me most of all:
What is actually at the root of human suffering, dissatisfaction, and conflict?
Slowly, the answer revealed itself.
What would eventually become The Art of Giving Permission™ wasn't invented. It emerged. And all I had to do was see it when it did.
DR. FISCHER’S LIFE PURPOSE
To reduce human suffering and interpersonal conflict on a global scale through the teaching of The Art of Giving Permission™.
